As the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Lamorde will reportedly be on his way out of the anti-graft agency in the coming days speculations emerge on who will replace him.
One of the sources on who will substitute Lamorde as EFCC chief said that Buhari may choose to go “against public expectation as was the case in the speculations of Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau emerging the NSA.”
“But barring any last minute changes, Hamid Ibrahim Alli, is likely to take Larmode’s place. I hear he is already being screened by the Department of State Services.”
Premium Times reports that Solomon Arase, Inspector General of Police, has written to anti-graft commission representing his plan to recall all police officers who have so far served in the agency for five years.
In a letter, with reference number CB/33/80/IGP.SEC/Abj/Vol.52/60, and dated from July 14, 2015, Arase ordered the EFCC to compile a list of all officers in the category, and forward to his office without suspension.
The sources said the demand, if implemented, would affect main leaders and detectives at the commission – including the EFCC chairman – who has also spent more than five years at the commission.
Lamorde has spent 12 years at the anti-graft commission. He was appointed director of operations in 2003 under Nuhu Ribadu’s leadership of the agency. He was then made acting chairman in January 2008 after his boss’ controversial removal.
He handed over to Farida Waziri in May 2008, but was again appointed director of operations of the commission in December 2010.
