NNPC Pipeline Explodes In Lagos

Unknown pipeline vandals yesterday, June 8, 2015, struck at the NNPC pipeline in Ije Ododo area of Lagos state causing an explosion at the flow lines.

Speaking with ships and ports spokesperson for the south-west National Emegerncy Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the hoodlums struck around 11.15 pm.

The emergency team swung into action this morning after securing access to the swampy terrain.

Reports say NNPC has shut down flows and supply valves to prevent the fire from spreading to other facilities in the area.

Ije Ododo pipeline is directly linked with the Atlas Cove that supplies products to Mosinmi.

Mosinmi distributes petroleum products to other part of south-west zone.

In recent times, taming pipeline vandalism has been of serious concern to stakeholders and the federal government.

According to statistics released by NNPC, the country loses about N535million daily to pipeline vandalism.

Before the expiration of his tenure, Goodluck Jonathan awarded a N9billion contract to members of the Oodua Peoples Congress to secure the pipelines.
