Ministers In Federal Secretariat Abandon Offices




Due to power outage in offices located in the Federal Secretariat by the Eagle Square, Abuja, Ministers and workers were on Tuesday absent from their offices.

According to the Nation, some workers did not show up at all while Ministers in the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) wing of the Secretariat, who turned up for work quickly left the offices due to darkness.

Due to the power outage, work had to be abandined at the Secretariat as computers, air conditioners and other electronic appliances could not be powered.

Some of the staff were noticed leaving the offices around 12:45 p.mcarrying their handbags following the footsteps of the Ministers who had left earlier.

Due to the power outage, most of the windows in the offices were opened while some staff, who stayed behind, in extremely dark areas without windows make do with rechargeable lamps and torch light from their telephone sets.

One staff on her way out of the office, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, said: “What do you think we can do in this circumstance? I don’t blame any staff going home because we are just wasting time here.

“There is no light and everywhere is dark. I cannot type my work on the computer. So is it not better to go home and do something useful?”She queried

Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Sam Amadi in mid-March announced a 50% reduction in electricity tariffor “NEPA bill” as it is popularly called in Nigeria. Though Amadi later came out to insist that the tarriff cut is not mean for all consumers.



Meanwhile, analyst have come out to predict how much the government will need to end shortage of power supply while some have come out to give reasons as to why it will not end like Nigerian/Filipino, Mr. Fortunato Leynes who is the pioneer and out-going Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC.
